Hello! My name is Ben Yuan and I think I think a lot.

People can easily describe me as big, tall, Asian, so I am used to standing out. This translates to my relationship with design because being different pushes me to be a stronger problem solver. I aspire to dig deeper, see the bigger picture, and make my work stand out. I care about being open-minded and appreciating differences. My main values are honesty and responsibility.

I know a thing or two about digital experience and graphic design. I get excited about responding to creative briefs, as well as presenting solutions from an informed and unique perspective. My practice also involves forming and executing distinctive ideas while paying attention to detail and objectivity. During and outside of work, I enjoy listening to a wide range of music genres.

Meiji During the Meiji Restoration (1868–1889), Japan rapidly industrialized and adopted Western ideas, which led to significant changes in Japan’s political and social systems. The geometric portion of Meiji is based on Reross, a Bauhaus-influenced typeface, which introduces structural consistency to a Japanese calligraphic style while maintaining tradition. This is my first typeface design.

The Childfree Choice Being childfree is a choice and can be a fulfilling lifestyle despite any cultural and social stigmas. People have many ways to find meaning in life, form a family, and leave a legacy without being a parent. This project’s research and information are mainly based on Dr. Amy Blackstone’s studies and uses her blog, we're {not} having a baby!, as a basis of communication.
