Glass
Hi! My name is Portia, and I am an emerging interdisciplinary artist who works with many mediums and material processes. These include blown glass, fused glass, flameworking, cyanotype, linoleum and block printing, freeform embroidery, sewing, ceramics, and mixed media. I recently graduated from the Alberta University of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass (2023) and am currently practicing in Mohkinstsis (colonially known as Calgary, Alberta). My work dives into the psychology of emotions through the lens of rhizomes and community as a space for healing. The foundation for my work is built through the movement of my body, how it exists within different places, shaped by the communities that I find myself within. I aim to build environments which assist in remedial teachings of interconnectedness, adaptability, and embodiment strength.

Nummular to Atopic (dermatitis in many forms)
This piece is a conversation on how different skin conditions are genetically passed down from parent to child (mother to daughter) and how the condition is still there even if its not visible to others. Dermatitis comes and goes, it creeps up on you when you become stressed and then it takes over your skin. My dermatitis currently is affecting my hands which makes blowing glass difficult due to the heat on my rough, cracked and broken skin.
