VCD – Character Design & Illustration
vinnnbi.myportfolio.com
Hey there! I’m a digital comic artist, illustrator, character designer and animator graduating from AUArts! After graduating I will be working on my big bundle of comics I’ve gathered throughout the years, but beyond that I specialize in worldbuilding and character/monster design! I love working on anything that might include monsters, body horror and sharks, but I’ve done my fair share of cute stuff as well.
I am pushed to create, write and draw through an innate curiosity with the world, how it functions and what would happen if you threw a wrench into it. Getting to mess around with biology and science is one of the most fun parts of being an illustrator, and more importantly a character designer. I am often victim to the thoughts of “how would this animal work if it had to survive underwater?” or “what if the end of the world had a physical manifestation? What would it act like? And would it even have a brain?” These “what if” questions are what bring me to life, and are the fire behind my art.
Samantha Shannon Book Covers
The Samantha Shannon Book covers are a set of two book covers that were built off of the preexisting written work of Samantha Shannon, a British author who is well known for her worldbuilding prowess. The goal of these illustrations was to create fake book covers for two of her already existing books, those being The Priory of the Orange Tree and The Bone Season.
Chef Lobster
Chef Lobster is a hypothetical children’s book aimed at teaching children about cooking in a fun, engaging but safe manner. You follow the character of Chef Lobster, simply being a lobster with an apron and a chef’s hat, as he attempts to make a seafood meatloaf. He’s challenged by Sous Chef Lobster, who is a lobster with a piece of polka dotted fabric tied around his carapace, because Sous Chef Lobster believes he can make a better seafood meatloaf than Chef Lobster. Sous Chef Lobster simply isn’t as good of a chef as Chef Lobster though, and through his mistakes, kids learn what NOT to do when making a delicious meatloaf.
Fish Creek I-Spy Game
The Fish Creek I-Spy Game is exactly as it sounds - an I-Spy game made using animals you can find in Fish Creek. The Fish Creek I-Spy Game was designed to be a mural set up in the main parking lot of Fish Creek, near the main office. It was meant to let people, mainly children, learn about Fish Creek in an engaging way before or after setting off on the paths.
Sailfin Environments
Sailfin is a comic that is currently in process, which follows the prince of an undersea kingdom breaking his chains, taking risks and seeking out forbidden knowledge against the wishes of his tyrannical father who would see him dead. The compiled artworks are environments explored throughout the comic, as the prince goes from the Little Light Kingdom he was raised in, and eventually reaches the mythologized Surface.
The Statement of Carter Randolph
The Statement of Carter Randolph is a modern retelling of the short story The Statement of Randolph Carter, by H.P. Lovecraft. The Statement of Carter Randolph follows Carter giving a statement to the police about what happened to his partner, Warden, a week ago. Warden was driven insane by a book he found in his local university that detailed the specifics of an ancient eldritch god, and so he forced Carter out into the swampland with him to meet it. In the process, Warden was killed and Carter barely escaped with his life. This collection is a selection of the first 5 pages of the comic and the comic’s cover page.
