Media Arts
Through the use of analog mechanisms, my experimental video practice explores themes of the self, materiality, and punk subcultures. The progression of technology has been fast-paced and confusing to navigate—trying to situate my relationship to it, and where it belongs in my life has been challenging. I find that there is a sense of anxiety present while working with digital media and being heavily immersed in an accelerating digital world. As a counterpoint to this digital inundation, I work with technologies primarily used in the 1970s/80s/90s and early 2000s and with Glass. I appreciate that many of these systems have analogue components, and as I continue my investigations with these mechanisms, I am also able to confront the uncertainty that remains between my personal affiliation with the digital world. I also work with Glass for similar reasons. There is a real life element to how the Glass functions with technology that I appreciate and I try to find ways to combine these mediums through sculpture and installation time based practices.
