Catherine (Katie) Deller
Having completed the Photography program at AUArts, I am now eager to explore the path I want to take as a professional photographer. Throughout my studies, AUArts has provided endless opportunities for me to expand my artistic horizons and embark on new adventures and career paths. In my third year of study, I was able to travel abroad and study in Bergen, Norway. There, I learned what it means and what it takes to be recognized in the international world of art and design. After interacting with people of different cultures, I realize no matter the cultural influences, art has a vital essence in the daily regimen of society.
I have always been intrigued by shock art, and the emotions it sparks within individuals. I create art that makes people feel things, photographs that empower them, or shakes them to their core. In one of my series, "Renaissance", I am mixing historically famous art and their cultural significances and metaphors, with current ideas and political issues. While abroad, I traveled to London and Paris, where I was able to visit national art galleries, and absorb the spirit of the art. I find it interesting how historical art forms, practices, and movements have formed art today, and how it continues to evolve.
I am unsure of what the future holds, but I am excited for the opportunities that will present themselves, and the learning experiences I will gain from them as a post-graduate of AUArts.
