Born on Treaty 7 land, Mohkinstis, Morgaine is an illustrator with a background in professional cooking & baking. Her work is inspired by the natural world, emotions and colour. She enjoys working with paint, screenprinting, relief printing and digital medias.

Don Quixote

A classic book redesign of Miguel de Cervantes's Don Quixote. Additionally, we were asked to come up with a fun way to market our book of choice. I chose a recipe folder to explore Spanish cuisine inspired by Don Quixote.

Self Care Sometimes we need a reminder to be gentle and care for ourselves as much as we care for others. Screenprint, 10"x10".
Fatigue I wanted to evoke the sense of fatigue I'm sure we all have felt in recent times due to the pandemic and pandemic-related issues. For myself it has felt like the light at the end of the tunnel is ever-slowly advancing and yet feels so distant at the same time. It feels as though I am walking through a bog, slow, steady paces and yet advancing nowhere. Screenprint, 11"x15".

Excalibur The fabled sword of legend is given to Arthur to signify his divine right to rule, and the Holy Grail as a symbol of his failure.
Morgaine's Sickle In the book, priestess of Avalon & Arthur's half-sister Morgaine left behind her ritual sickle as a symbol of her renouncing her priestess-hood. The Old Man of Tor can be seen in the background as a symbol of the old ways.
Plough I reimagined Morgaine's sickle as a plough and her home as a sod house. The plough is emblematic of her relationship to the land.
Excalibur In a spaghetti western, I imagined Excalibur would be a sharp-shooting Colt 45, and the enchanted scabbard gifted by Arthur's sister would be the holster for it.

The Mists of Avalon

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley is a fantasy novel about King Arthur as told by the women of Arthurian legend. For this project we told the story through environment and artifacts from the source text, and then reinterpret the story in a different genre.
